How to Participate in a Wider Embraces Online Meeting

Please read this page carefully before joining a Wider Embraces session. It’s important both for your, and the others, and the whole experience.

Before you Dive out into the Wider Embraces

You are Responsible for Taking Care of Yourself

So far everyone has had only good experiences. But we are working with expanding the borders of self, and for some people, this might not be healthy.

Everyone who is joining has to take full responsibility for themselves. If you have some psychological vulnerability, it might be a good idea to refrain from participating and especially from taking the Embraces as your first-person perspective. If you are unsure, please consult a professional.

Mentally stable
Only for the mentally stable.

Some Experience of Inner Focus is Great

It’s an advantage if you have some experience of being silent and aware of your emotions and bodily sensations, but you can also use the Wider Embraces as a training tool to develop this capacity. Because we work together, there is the support of the group, that helps keep us focused.

Meditation Cushion
Some experience of meditation, or similar, is helpful but not required.

Prepare for an Online Session

Find a comfortable and quiet place

Find yourself a comfortable place where you won’t be disturbed. Turn off your phone and all programs on your computer that might interrupt you or uses a lot of power.

Use a videocam so we can see each other

Wider Embraces is about the collective, and it will be much easier for us to enter into the Embrace of the Group if we can see each other during parts of the call, so please use your webcam and have some light on in the room.

Use a headset for good sound quality

The sound quality is so much better with a headset, both when you listen and when you engage in conversation. And less noise from your environment is broadcasted to everyone.

During the Meeting

Everyone contribute

During the session, one person will be the guide, and everyone will contribute.

Don't project

It’s important not to project our humaneness onto the Embraces. We don’t know how it is to be the Embrace of the Biosphere. The seize and timespan are so different.

Not even the Embrace of Humanity is human.

Avoid religious language

We use the scientific map to navigate the Wider Embraces, and we avoid religious interpretations and language.

Who is speaking

When you speak during a Wider Embraces process, always say who is speaking, what perspective you are sensing from.

It can be the Embrace, or it can be your personal perspective. All present perspectives are welcome to talk.

Use concrete language

During a session, we contribute to our shared process by reporting what we feel and experience. Be concrete and keep it short and about what you are experiencing right now. After the session, there will be time for reflections and analysis.

Different perspectives

If your experience is not the same as the others, that is important information for the guide, so just tell what you experience. Maybe you have found something interesting that the whole group can benefit from.

Small sounds welcome

If there is nothing you want to share, or if you are in a place with no words, the guide and the other participants will appreciate if you occasionally make some noises that indicate that you are part of the process.

Privacy is safe

The perspective from an Embrace, don’t have access to the inner of its parts. Just like you don’t know what your kidneys are aware of.

If someone shares something personal during a session, don’t share it outside the session.
